Word 2000 open problem

In Word 2000, when I open a document from the recent files list
another Word programme is launched instead of opening the doc
in the original prog window. This soon drains the memory
resources of the machine!! Is this by default? I have Service Pack 3
installed.

Word 2000 opens each document in its own application window however you open
the documents. This is how Word 2000 was designed. There's no reason why it
should be draining your computer's memory resources.
