I am trying to install Word 2000 on a new Windows XP Service Pack 2 image.
When I try to install word I receive a "Windows File Protection Error" and it
ask to insert Windows XP Service Pack 2 into the CD-ROM to continue.
Inserting the service pack disk into the cd-rom does not fix the problem
because it fails to read the cd. Any ideas?

Hi Henry,

You need to insert the XP slipstreamed CD (with SP2 integrated), when you're
prompted for the disk. If you don't have the S-S CD, point to the
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles folder after making this registry edit:

Open Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

Backup the registry key to a REG file

Set the value of "ServicePackSourcePath" to
"C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles"

( Change the drive-letter and Path accordingly, if Windows is installed in
another drive )

Restart and run SFC /Scannow.
