Won't shut down !!

Vista Home Premium on a core duo computer, 2GB RAM.

Working perfectly, then developed a fixation on the Shutting
Down screen and won't go any further, whether on shutdown or
restart.

NOTHING has been installed or modified - this just arose
spontaneously as far as I can recall.

Is there a well-known fix for this?

I've got one that refuses to shut down - it goes though the expected
motions but just never switches off. Running XP though (and everything
else I have tried) all works as it should.

I assume you have checked the MS update site but you could try the MB
manufacturer's site for updates, I guess this could be a driver problem
on the MB or else something in the BIOS that needs fixed.

I don't know if anything like this will help

THANKS! It appears that I'm not alone. This is (was?) a minor
annoyance in an otherwise excellent system.
