Hi all

installed xp home for first time yesterday (new install), but it will not
sucessfully load the sound drivers. These were working fine on my previous
w98se system, but despite loading latest drivers available for XP, it will
not work. Device status reads "Windows cannot load the device driver for
this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)".
I'm running AMD XP2800+ on a KX600pro mb with onboard ac97 sound. The
original drivers from the motherboard disk will not work, neither will the
latest drivers "wdm_a359" from Realtek. I have lost count of the uninstalls
& reinstalls.

Any ideas anyone. I've searched XP's (Microsofts) web site, and have
installed all available updates.

Been there, tried that. The one on their web site is the same (old) one as
on my mb cd (a realtek as well).

Well, if you have an empty PCI slot, you could always purchase a sound card.
An extra expense for you, I know, but an option just the same. Some cheap
ones are usually under $50. If you do go that way, make sure you turn off
the integrated in the BIOS.

found a fix. Had to flash the bios, they only recently released a bios fix
for this problem (albatron). Funny thing is, it worked on the old bios when
I was using win 98se! Surely there must have been thousands of other XP
users with the same mb having the same problem, yet the original bios was
out last year!
