Won't install

A friend has just formatted his drive to reinstall XP, when it boots
from the cd, there is a message saying setup is checking the hardware
configuration then the screen goes blank. A couple of hours later and
it is no further on. Any ideas?

Check to make sure only the mouse, keyboard and monitor are connected to the
computer. No other hardware should be connected when doing a format and
installation of the operating system.

Was your friend having problems before the format? There may be a hardware
problem.
