Alright, hubby played WoW last night then shut down the computer. This
morning, it only powers up then makes it's whirring sound then clicks over
and over again. No screens come up, it just sound like it's gearing up to
boot then clicks and whirrs more and click... over and over.
What I have done so far, is disconnected ALL drives and rebooted... all
seems to go well so I reconnect ONLY the hd--the whirr click starts again.
So I think it may be dead. Then I set BIOS to default and that didn't help.
So I disconnect that properly then moved the cable and jumper to the other
internal hd (storage) to make it the master and see if I can load Vista on
there.
It does boot to the DVD drive and goes to the "Windows is loading files..."
screen and the bar fills up. That's where it stops.

Does anyone have any idea on what's happened to the original hd? Is there
anyway to fix the install problem on the other drive?

Thanks!

Sorry, but it appears the hard drive failed mechanically.

I realize that, so that's why I'm trying to load Vista onto the other hd.
However, it stops dead at "Windows is loading files...". Another thing I
noticed last night (by accident--was disconnecting all cards that weren't
necessary for the install) I unplugged the power connection to the
"replacement" hd and booted it with the Windows disk and the install actually
started instead of getting stuck.
Can you tell me what's going on? It seems that it may be a motherboard
issue if BOTH hds are not loading it... What's your take on that?

I realize that. Why won't it load windows onto the other hd though? If I
disconnect the power to the replacement drive, windows tries to load
normally. It wants to load but stops when the power is connected to it.
