WMP Version Numer Discrepancy.

I've never had a problem with WMP v10 since I installed it, now I've got
an error message:

The file wmplayer.exe has a version number of 10.0.0.3802 where
10.0.0.3646 was expected.
Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?

With autoupdates off & ZoneAlarm not allowing access to the net for WMP,
how does the program calculate that it's not the latest version, &
regardless of the answer, why can't I decide which version I want loaded
on MY computer?
