WMP Internet Radio Problems

P

Pete

Hi everyone,

I am running xpsp2 and have WMP version 10.

I need some help. My WMP is acting very erratic at best, and I am getting
very frustrated trying to play the free radio stations on
http://www.omninternet.com/radio/radio.asp.

It used to play some stations and now it will not. It plays some stations
intermittently (sometimes it will connect to them and sometimes not).
Currently, I have not been able to play anything new at all, it seems.
Whatever I click (I usually try to play oldies type music from
60's/70's/80's) from various states in the USA, it keeps giving me an error
message "WMP can not play any of the files", or something like that. And
then it says there is no information for that error message if you click go
to web.

It also does some other squirrly things like locking up (and I have to end
task) when I try to click something on in my library list. Yesterday I was
playing a great oldies station I just tried from Illinois and it played a
song and then quit about a minute later (and kept doing it repeatedly on
retries - it didn't lock up, it just quit playing the song). The only thing
that seems to play consistently now is my bnet radio oldies in Houston (and
even that acts up sometimes, but it is playing okay right now).

As a test, could you please tell me if any of you can play the following
two Texas stations - I used to play them for at least two weeks and they
worked fine - good stations if you like oldies. Now they will not connect
at all (I just get the error message when I try to play them).

If you can play them please let me know. If not, then there must be some
kind of corruption with my WMP, or the free Internet radio has a lot of
glitches in it. If it could be a corrupted WMP, then please advise me on
what I can do to fix the problem. What happens if you uncheck WMP in the
windows components list in add/remove programs - does that just disable it
but it is still on your hard drive - I never understood what unchecking the
items does in the components list - please explain that also if you can.

Sorry this was a bit long. Thank you.

Hi Pete - Well, you can try this if you just want to listen. Open a _new
instance of IE in each case_ AND then allow popups:

Thanks Jim...can you explain a little why WMP doesn't work or works
erratically (ie the main just of my original post). I am trying to learn
what is going on here. Is this an inherent problem with WMP trying to play
free music or what - ie why does it say it can not play any of the stations
(or shuts the music off after a minute, etc) but yet the stations are listed
in the free radio web site I highlighted, and it says they are WMP
compatible. I don't understand why. Please explain if you can.
Thanks...Pete

Pete, it's probably mostly a matter of getting the right links, at least for
those two. (With streaming, that's usuually the issue.) The one's you gave
don't work for me in WMP 9 or in Screamer either, so . . .

Here are some URL's that I use for streaming 'oldies' in Screamer - try them
in your WMP10, Open URL. The first twoI also checked out in my WMP 9, and
they are OK (1260 isn't streaming at the moment, so can't check it.) If you
can play these, then I would think there's probably not an issue with your
WMP10, but post back . . . :
