I am trying to figure out how to get Mediaplayer 9 to work like it did at
one time. I can't seem to get it restored to play a streaming video like it
did. If I clock on a link that is the file I get white page telling me 'The
page cannot be displayed'. I get message at bottom that says: 'Cannot find
server or DNS Error Internet Explorer'. Can someone please tell me what
setting is off as it used to work fine. I am running winXP Pro on P4 2.4 G/w
1Gig of Ram.

Thanks

Proctor

when this happens are u able to surf online to there
websites sounds to me that u are offline.... if u are
offline and it did stuff like that then u may have turned
cached pages off

Try Tools, Options, Network tab. By default, the 4 protocols are checked, the box for Use port 7000-7007 is unchecked, and the HTTP protocol is set to use the Browser's proxy settings.

I am always online as I have broadband. If I paste a url into it from file
menu all is fine. I just cannot get it to run the url from the address line
and when I click on detect network settings I hear a double click and get
nowhere. It did work until the other day. A small window would appear as I
believe I was asked at one time if that was what I wanted it to do and
allowed it. I then tried to get it to return to the way it ran before that,
just opening fully without a web page taking up most of the screen but now
it is dead.

At tool all looks as it should. Four boxes are checks while the 'Use port
7000-7007' is unchecked. WMP plays fine when I click on desktop icon but
just won't access url like it did. I go to one of my web pages that has just
four screens of WMP and it plays all four streams fine even at one time.
Just that darn url from address line issue.

Proctor, etal
This describes the problem I'm having..... to a tee! No one seems to have a clue
I have tried everything I can think of, but just end up doing a "restore" just to start over again and again
Maybe someone, some day, will be able to come up with a cure
