Sorry for reposting here but no one would respond from the video group. I'm
unable to get video. The sound is there, just no video. I tried
reinstalling WMP with no luck. Is there a problem with WMP11 and XP, home,
sp3?
Should I just roll-back to WMP10? Most of what I have resurched dosen't
refur to sp3. I have updated my drivers. Thanks for any thoughts.

Windows Media Player General.

I did try the FAQ, when I downloaded the Codec pack it stopped because WMP11
was uncompatable with the previous versions. I' still stumped.

I see the crosspost to WMP NG but I don't know were that is. Sorry for my
ignorance. I appreciate your efforts.

I downloaded the "winampac3" file, unzipped it and I can't find the exe. I"m
a novice at this and it's harder than it need to be. Thanks Perky & PA Bear
I thought that after reformatting it would get simpler but getting WMP11
functioning is confusing.

Have you tried GSpot yet on the video ?

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

* Establishes what video codecs (audio and video) are required to play an AVI file.
* Determines whether these codecs are installed on your system.
* Isolates problems associated with these codecs.
* Simple operation - Basic use: "File > Open", then read results

Sometimes when I run that, I get an error code, which can be used
in a subsequent search.

I think I need just a wmv codec, but there isn't anywhere I can find that has
it. I tried VLC and it won't play either, I'm thinking a setting of some sort
is interfering or something. The report from GSpot was "Codec Status
Undetermined"

What does it contain?

Generally the answer should be Not Advisable.

OK, so you don't get any error, just no video.
What video card? Did you update to the latest version from the vendor?
If you turn system-wide video hardware acceleration all the way off, does
video show up?

Install VLC. It's free and no messing around with codecs.

Would installing "Codec Installation Packages for IT Professionals" be

If the file won't play with VLC, the codec install won't help and may
corrupt your system (like it did mine).
