WMM 2.1 movie saving issue

I am trying to make a movie using Windows Movie Maker, and I am having an
issue with the file saving. It starts off saving normally, then once it hits
66% the file saving stops for about two minutes then it just jumps to 100%.
The file should be at least 40 MB but it ends up being less than half the
size. It ends up being around 12-15 MB. There is supposed to also be sound
with it but all the sound is cut off in the save file. Is there a reason for
this?

I read those sites, and they had nothing helpful. My video is already a
compatible type, AVI. The thing is that no error message appears. when it
does hit 66% the CPU skyrockets from 20-30% to 100% and tend to hop back and
forth rapidly. Something tells me the sound recording from the file may have
an issue, since it plays fine in Movie Maker but is cut off entirely in the
saving of the movie. I will reread it to see if I miss anything.
