All I want is something to play Real Audio media RAM. I already use
Irfanview V3.92 and Windows Media V10.00.003646. Will either one, with a
proper plug-in or codec, play RAM sound? And if so, where can I get it
please? I have hunted and hunted.

Try http://www.free-codecs.com/
Left hand column under 'tools' are free codecs available for download.
Real alternative is available as is quicktime alternative.

Regards,

Garry

Thank you. Now another dumb question. Do you install codecs like any other
software or is there something special I should know first? zmartha

Sorry for the abbreviated response. Just navigate to the web site and
download the packages you wish. Remember where you save them. Go to the save
folder, find the download file and start the executable (probably a simple
double click) The software will install and associate with the files it
supports. You can then play your .ram files and whatever.

Best of luck,,
Garry

Open the program after you install it. At the top click on Options (there will be a
drop down menu). Select
set file associations. Go to that page and SELECT ALL. Close. Voila. Back
in the program across the
top menu click File Open ---- and go to the file you want (notice if it's audio
or graphics.... select appropriate).
If it's on audio... when you click on wav (from a folder) or mp3 ... it will
play... same with graphics...

Well, I did as you said and installed the codecs to play .ram. It played two short .ram files at
http://website.lineone.net/~ntgreek/f-ind-02.html

Then, I changed the setting from 33kb dial up to 250 DSL, and then it stopped working by putting up the End Program window and wanting to send an error report to MS.

I restarted the PC (with xp) and it now takes for ever (tried it 3-4 times) to start up the computer, even after I uninstalled it and did a Sys restore to a time before I installed it.

I have tried downloading Realplayer, but the page is blocked and I unchecked any blocks and firewalls for their site and it will not download, so the only two programs that play .ram won't work, and I want to learn old Greek. :( Any suggestions?

Try Jet Audio. It plays .ram files natively and can associate the
files to its program. www.jetaudio.com
