WLDAP32.DLL Confusion!

G

Guest

While booting up my mother-n-laws Dell PC I get a blue screen reading "Image
wldap32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match computed
checksum". Is this a virus? What shall I do to rectify the problem?

Thanks for your help!

If you're able to login to your profile successfully, then use one of these
methods to extract a new copy of the WLDAP32.DLL file to the
Windows\System32 folder.

How to expand Windows XP files from the installation disk:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=888017

Microsoft Windows XP - Expand:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/bootcons_expand.mspx

Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the protected files on your
computer:

a. Click Start, and then click Run.
b. In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK.

Note that you may be prompted for the Windows XP or Windows XP Service Pack
1 / 2 installation media.

Hello Ramesh,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm unable to expand the files from the installation disc. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks so much:)

I'm unable to expand the files from the installation disc.

Why? What's the error message?

BTW, what about the 2nd option that I told you.

Hello Ramesh,

I appreciate your help. I'm currently booting up in Safe mode since that's
the only option. The error message reads "No files matching ;wldap32.dll; in
d:\driver.cab.

Second option didn't work either. Do you think this is a virus??

Hi,

Type this exactly as given below in Run:

sfc /scannow

Note that there is a space after the word "sfc" and NO space after the slash
(/)

I do not have a Run: option. sfc /scannow does not work when I enter it next
to
c:/(windows). Can you send me step by step from booting the system? Right
now I'm entering F12 while the computer is booting so I can get to the IDE CD
Drive option.

Thanks!!!

Hi,

Start Windows in Safe Mode. Then click Start, Run and type this command:

SFC /SCANNOW

Insert your Windows XP CD, or mention the Path as
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 when prompted.

Hello Ramesh,

My mistake, we're only able to boot up the system in Recovery Mode not Safe
Mode. Can you explain what to do in Recovery mode? Should I just reformat
the hard drive and start fresh? Does this sound like a virus?

Thanks so much and Happy New Year!

The DLLCache folder will maintain another copy of critical system files. See
if copying the wldap32.dll from DLLCache to Windows\System32 folder helps.
This can be done via Recovery Console, or using BartPE's boot CD.

BTW, DLLCache is located here:

C:\Windows\system32\dllcache

Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD:
