With an image backup, can I delete SP2 backup files?

I have not yet installed SP2 (nerves I guess), however I heard it creates
huge backup files.

I have excellent image backup capability to an external drive with Acronis
True Image 7 which I have successfully used in the past to restore C:
partition. If I create a recent image backup just before installing SP2, do
I need the SP2 created backup files or can I just delete them?

Though you're putting the cart before the horse, consider saving your
pre-SP2 backup information to another location instead, Jeff, should you
want/need to uninstall SP2.

Hi

I would have burned the backup files to a CD-ROM.

For folders you can consider deleting and other disk cleanup tips
after a successful SP2 installation, take a look here:
