I have 2 computers, XP and 98 with a wired connection.

I set my whole C: drive to be shared. I cant open program
files, or user's folders that are on my XP from my 98, it
says access is denied. on the XP it wont let me share the
program files folder because it says that the folder is
used by the operation system. who ever came up with that
idea for this os shouldnt have done that.

anyway, is there a way to open program files on my other
computer?

Hi,

In the first place, in order to use the programs, they would still have to
be installed on the Win98 system to create necessary registry entries and
place essential files in the system folder of the Win98 system. There is no
way you will run the programs without these.

In the second place, doing an installation that way would make your Win98
system totally dependent on the WinXP system being operational. It would
also require that you map the drive on the Win98 machine so that it retained
the same letter for that drive. During installation, you will need to
indicate that the installer place the program files on this mapped drive (in
essentially the same location as they already are under the WinXP system).

For the third reason, most programs only allow for a single installation to
one machine. To install it to two separate machines may be a violation of
the end-user agreement.

For the fourth reason - Do you have any idea of how slow the program will
run if the network connection isn't optimal? In a word - very.

Im not trying to used installed programs, that would be
stupid. certain files though, such as a game save or
certain EXEs that run by themselves would still work on
another computer.
but, is there a any way to access this folder or no

Hi Thaddes,

No. Move things you wanto access from another system out of the system
folders.
