wisptis.exe - Why is this program running in the background?

I was in Task Manager trying to figure out what each process was and
noticed wisptis.exe was running. On searching for the file, it is in
C:\WinNT\System32. Right-clicking on the file and looking at its
Properties -> Version tab says, "Microsoft Tablet PC Platform
Component." Yeah, and what has that to do with my desktop PC?.

I think this is part of Microsoft's Journal Viewer, something needed by
non-tablet PC users to read a document created by tablet PC users. So
maybe I touched something that caused the Journal Viewer to load. So,
now after many hours I'm not touching whatever it was so why are
components of the Journal Viewer still loaded?

If it is the Journal Viewer, then I'm going to uninstall it. If tablet
PC users can't generate documents that use some standard filetype then I
don't want to bother with their documents, anyway.

Maybe you downloaded every Windows update whether you needed it or
not. Is your computer set to auto update?? I prefer to pick and
choose which Windows updates I install, Journal Viewer is not one
I need.

The auto-update NT service is configured for automatic load on Windows
startup. However, I have it configured to prompt me regarding what
updates it wants to proffer. I don't remember installing the Journal
Viewer but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. I have since uninstalled
this fluff (and now, of course, Windows Update wants to notify me that
it is available for download). Too bad Microsoft doesn't let users add
an item into their installation history to IGNORE an "update" that it
proffers. Then for all those "updates" that you don't need or don't
want then they would no longer reappear on every Windows Update visit.

Of course, I see how stupid is this installation history when it reports
that the Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 install from back on Aug 2002 is
still "In Progress" (which was completed long ago and now I'm at SP-4)
and another entry next to it for the same install showing a status of
"Successful".

When I clicked on "Personalize Windows Update", it showed a tree of:

|_| Windows 2000 Updates
|_| Recommended Updates
|_| Windows Journal Viewer

where |_| is a checkbox. I unchecked the Windows Journal Viewer and
clicked the Save Settings button. Another new scan and the Journal
Viewer no longer showed up. Well, I suppose that's one way to build an
ignore list.
