Hi,
Is there something I'm missing with Vista and wireless, I have to different
wireless networks and I now
have a Vista laptop in each network that I can't connect to. All
firmware/drivers is up to date on the
laptop and the routers and I still can't get them to connect but I have no
problem with the XP.
Side note, I have had both laptops connected and surfing the Web and having
access to network
shares and what not but they have both since been dropped. I'd be happy to
just focus on one of
them.

All the computers have to have the same Workgroup name, and the default
Workgroup names for XP and Vista computers are different. Until you change
them so that they are all the same, you won't be able to network them. I
found it easier to change the name in the XP units, and once I did that, all
was well.

This following has been provided before by another person. My apologies for
not recording who that was and giving proper credit. ... let us know if you
make progress.

The standard fixes are:

1. In Device Manager, Properties, [select wireless NIC], Properties, Power
Management, uncheck "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power."

2. a) type regedit and press enter

b) path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\

c) registry option: DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, double click on it, in
the value data box change the 1 to a 0

3. In Network & Sharing, select Manage Wireless Connections. Select your
wireless network and right click. Select properties. Uncheck Connect to a
more preferred network if available.

4. In Network & Sharing, select Manage Network Connections. Select the
Wireless Network Connection. Right click and select Properties. Uncheck
Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6). Uncheck QOS Packet Scheduler.
Click OK.

Firstly, I would like to know the following info:

1. How did you configure the Wireless Network? For your convenience, I
include some articles as following:

Please check your settings according to the above articles to make sure the
configuration is correct.

2. The following article provides seven steps to trouble shooting the
wireless connection issue. Please follow the steps mentioned below and have
another test.

How to troubleshoot wireless connection problems

If the above trouble shooting steps doesn't help, please help collect the
following infos:

1. What's the error message it appears on the client computer when the
Wireless connection failed? Please press PrScrn key when the error message
occurs, paste it in MSPAINT applicaiton and email to me.

To capture a screenshot:

a. Please press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.
b. Click "Start", click "Run", type "mspaint", and click "OK".
c. In Paint, click Paste under the Edit Menu, click Save under the File
menu, type a file name for the screenshot, choose JPEG as "Save as type",
click "Desktop" on the left pane, and click Save.
d. Please find the screenshot on the Desktop and send it as an attachment
to me

2. Please collect Event log from client computer:

To collect an Event log

a. On the wireless client computer, click Start -> Run, type EVENTVWR and
click OK.
b. Right click Application event, select ?Save Log File As???, save it as
..evt file, email it to me.
c. Export the System event log and email to me too.
