Hello, I have XP Home SP2 with my Acer Aspire notebook and it has
Broadcom Wireless 802.11b/g wi-fi adapter.

I use XP's built-in Wireless Zero Configuration service to connect
wireless to my ADSL router (US Robotics 9108)

I have some problems, but not always, i rarely have problems with
Wireless service of XP. Here they are:

1-During XP start-up computer hangs at ''acquiring network address''
page, and i had to reset computer to connect healthy. DHCP is working
OK and no problems in router's configuration. This happens
'sometimes'. WHY?

2-My second and important question: Although connected successfully
via wireless, after for couple of hours, wireless zero configuration
or wireless service of XP FREEZES, LOCKS until i reboot. No response.
Also no ping to my router until i reboot. This could happen when my
wireless is idle for couple of hours. WHY?

Wireless Zero Configuration or XP's built-in wireless service is not
stable definelty. What should i do? Which 3rd party wi-fi utility
should i install?

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

It seems to me that the answer to questions 1 and 2 is that wireless is a
bit flakey. Mine sometimes can't connect across the room; but right now it
has no problem going 25 feet. It sometimes quits when it is raining (not
inside though). So, it is unreliable.

I would try the manufacturer's software before all others.

Windows XP's crappy service. What is the link or what should i instal?

Sorry, I don't know. My laptop has an Intel wireless adapter, and they
provide a program which substitutes for WZC. The Intel software is what I
use.

My Acer has all of the drivers on a Hidden Partition accessible under the
Acer Empowering Technology

The Wireless Xero Configuration (WZC) system is the only Windows XP
service, since WZC came out. unless Acer had provided you with a
Broadcom driver CD, you should look at:

1) Updated the Broadcom drivers. First check on Acer's web site then
Broadcom (maybe??) Never get drivers from Windows Update web site.

2) Check Anti-Virus system so as to see if it is not interferring
with WZC.
If possible, turn off the "automatic" anti-virus protection
during "boot" as a test.

3) Check any "software" firewall and create a "access" rule to allow
WZC access.

Hidden partition cannot be accessed under Windows until you have set a
special parameter unde BIOS.

Except this, is there a direct link to a 802.11b/g configuration
software for Wireless Configuration (NOT drivers) for Broadcom? (Acer
Aspire 3004WLCI)

Thank you.

What I was trying to say was the service is already installed. If you shut
down XP's Wireless Zero Config Service under Admin Tools/services then the
Build in Acer Service takes over. You do need to right click the wireless
Icon and do some adjustments...like search for wireless connection..setup
security...etc etc etc .
I just did that on my Acer after stopping the XP service and tru the config
found 4 wireless connections including mine.
I then proceded to connect to 2 unsecured connections that were not mine and
got my homepage thru IE7.........then did mine and entered the security
settings and again got to my home page.Like I said its there already....you
just need to set it up.

Peter,i understood you completely but Where is the Acer Wireless
service? It is not present under service list in Admin Tools and in
drive C:

So, is there a link or way to provide built-in acer wireless service
for my Aspire 3004WLCI?

Thanks again.
