Wireless Woes

Running XP Pro with all the updates on a new Compaq
Presario 2500.

Running BroadCom 54G MaxPerformance 802.11g Wireless setup

Cant connect to the internet or Yahoo Messenger even
though when I am aroun hotspots, the network icon in lower
right corner says "Connection Available"

IP Config:

Dhcp is enabled
Autoconfiguration IP address is enabled
 
Can you ping the access point/gateway? Do you have a firewall running??
Specifics please! What diagnostic procedures have you tried???
