Wireless signal strength icon

S

Scott

I recently disabled my network signal strength icon in
the systray (green stairstep type icon). I am wishing to
get it back but I can't find the area to make it
available again. The only thing listed under the network
properties is a box to enable/disable the two computer
type icon. Where can I find the checkbox to enable the
signal strength icon?
Thank You.

I too have the same problem. The only wireless icon I now
have is the 'double computer' icon that flashes when
connected. I can hover my pointer over it and it gives me
a general signal description, but I would like to get the
green stair step meter back.

Gentlemen
I think you are referring to the D-Link config utility?
If you don't have the D-Link icon on your desktop, try Start>Programs>D-Link
(airplus), clicking the shortcut "should" start the utility.

Hi Scott,

In XP you can double-click the Wireless Connection icon in the Network
Connections folder to view the connection status. In the connection status,
there is a signal strength meter that you can use to verify the strength
of the signal between computers.
I don't know of a way to put this on hte systray. I believe the meter you
are looking for is implemented by the NIC driver. Perhaps you can find how
to enable it on the properties of the NIC.

Thanks,

I know that I can find the signal strength in the
properties of the connection status, but no where in the
NIC properties or any of my network properties can I
enable that wireless signal strength meter back to my
systray....would love to be able to get it back.

I am not using Dlink and I don't think there is anything
on my machine called Dlink...could be wrong though. This
icon/meter is part of the wireless package that came on my
machine. I have looked in the properites of the wireless
card and there is not option to reinstate this.

I have a Cisco wireless card. I have looked through
everything wireless related and everything related to
Cisco on my machine. In none of the properties do I find
such an option to enable the signal strength meter. This
D Link thing, does a Cisco card have this?

That feature probably isn't in the network card properties. Load up
the driver disk that came with your Cisco card and look for a
configuration or monitoring utility program on that disk.
