Wireless router prevents Programmes Running

I have just changed from a cable to a wireless adsl connection, but
when connected to the router, certain programmes won't start.

The ones affected seem to involve FTP-ing, like Ebay's Turbo Lister,
Auction Sentry a sniping tool and Studio365 for uploading files to
live365.

Reconnecting to the cable connection restores their use.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Many thanks

Hi

These programs probably need ports to be open in the Router's Virtual Server.

A specific Open port can be associated only with one specific IP. Could be that the
ports are associated with the IP that is assigned to the cable NIC, and thus would not
work if the Wireless is assigned with another IP.

The best solution is to make a decision to use always the same type of connection when
you use these applications, assign a static IP the connection, and open the ports for
the static IP.

Thanks for that Jack, but I now find that whilst only a few programmes
won't run at initial boot up, progressively more fail to work until the
system locks completely.

Just now, many programmes were failing - even basic things like
Outlook.

I disabled the wireless connection and re-connected via my old
broadband cable, without rebooting the PC. Within about five seconds
the screen went mad as it caught up.

I've updated and run Norton anti-virus and Spybot. Both found nothing.

I'm beginning to think wireless routers are not for me <g>.
