Hi there,

First off, wasn't sure whether to post in hardware or software support so i've gone straight for the 'general discussion'. I've searched for ages through old posts on the forum and read endless threads but i think my problem is a bit too specific;

I'm networking using a stand alone cable modem (NTL) connected to a D-LINK Dl-624+ router (via ethernet). I set up the NTL software directly from the cable modem to a PC via ethernet (not through the router) and all appeared fine. I then added the router with the same PC connected directly from the router via ethernet and with four other PC's connecting wirelessly.

Every PC can connect with good signal strength and quality (all above 70% for both strength and quality) but after a matter of minutes (normally 2-3mins) all PC's simultaneously disconnect and reconnect (including the PC connected directly to the router).

When only one PC is connected all is fine, no problems. But as soon as all are connected the problem starts up again.

Someone has mentioned port forwarding to me but i researched it and don't think that it is anything to do with the problem (though i clearly know very little about it).

Any help would be excellent.

cheers,

Dan

I had a problem similar to that with my old router, however it appeared that the router itself was faulty. Have you checked the router logs (via the web control panel) and see what reason it gives?

Hi Ian,

Managed to get the web control panel up and found the log. Not really sure what any of the terms in the log mean. I've pasted some of the log below;

I think i've managed to work out what is making the connection disconnect;

Nov/12/2006 12:33:38 IP with zero length Detect0.0.0.0:00.0.0.0:0Packet Dropped

This message appears in the log whenever it disconnects. Immediately after it all PCs try to reconnect. Any ideas what it means or what could be causing it?

Cheers again

Are you setting your IP addresses manually at all? I'm not sure what is causing that problem, however someone else with more network experience here might :)
