Wireless networking breaks after upgrade to Professional

G

Glenn

I had no problems connecting to my wireless network running
Windows XP home edition. I installed the Professional
version this week and now I cannot see any available
wireless networks.

I tried disabling/re-enabling the card, I reconfigured the
router to allow any MAC addresses to connect and I still
cannot see any Access Points.

Running a Dell Insipirion 1100 with a Dell TrueMobile 1300
card. The driver is 3.20.23.0

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Glenn & SSinha -

Ditto for me also. My wireless was fine until I
installed SP2. I've had to uninstall SP2 and scratching
my head to figure this one out.

Any ideas would be great!

PROBLEM SOLVED but not sure why...

After spending an hour on the phone with Dell support and downloading the
latest drivers (I'm using a TrueMobile 1300 wireless card) I still wasn't
able to see any networks (I usually see 3 or 4 networks in my neighborhood).

So what I did was manually add my SSID network name as a Preferred Network.
Finally, the machine saw the signal but still could not connect to it. Then I
went to the Advanced settings of my SSID that I just configured and changed
the "Networks to Access" setting from "Any available network (access point
preferred)" to "Access Point (infrastructure) networks only" and finally IT
WORKED!!

I failed to mention that I rebooted the router, did not have WEP configured,
and also disabled the Access Control List (i.e., which MAC addresses could
connect), but I don't think the router setting had anything to do with it.

Long story short, I'm not sure why it worked but it is now. Hope this is
useful information for someone.

Glenn
