Wireless network with sharing cable-modem = oh my god!

I, don't get it why do I sometimes see each other shareddocs-map and
sometimes not?
Sometimes XP sp2 can't log on the wireless network, although it is
from the same place where I had 90% receive-quality, just 6 meters
away from the router with 1 wooden wall between it!

I also can't get the portable see the desktop although all settings
are the same!

I disabled XP-sp2- and Norton Internetsecurity-firewall but that
didn't help much!

Using Topcom WBR254G 54mbps USB-dongles...

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP PLEASE!
