Wireless network no longer working after update to SP

After update to XP SP my wireless network connection is no
longer working. Fortunately I have a cable connection to
the router too, so I could try every combination: without
encryption, with SSID and so on, no success!

There are two kinds of fixes that Microsoft (or any software
vendor) can supply: those that address and fix a problem that
some people may be having, and those that are preemptive--for
example that close a security loophole that is likely to cause a
problem in the future.

Your comment would be appropriate if SP2 was entirely a
collection of fixes of the first type. Since it's largely a
collection of fixes of the second type, your comment is entirely
inappropriate. Security fixes, whether singly or in a bunch (a
Service Pack), should almost always be installed, without respect
to whether you are having a particular problem or not.
