Wireless Neighbor

My neighbor has the same LinkSys wireless router that I
have. I am running XP and everytime I try to connect to
my router, It comes up with "two or more wireless
networks are available". I try to connect to mine but it
won't. Then the same message pops up again after a
minute or so. How can I make it so I only connect to my
network?

Most wireless routers have "channels" that they operate on which control the
exact frequency the signals are sent. Try changing your channel (you'll
have to change the wireless pc NIC to the same channel as the router).

Thank you. I have my router set up for channel 11 and my
neighbors at channel 6. How do I set up the laptop to
only recognize channel 11?

You'll need to go into the configuration for the laptop's wireless NIC. It
may have a web interface like 192.168.0.1

Each one is different, consult the documentation that came with it.

JJ,

In Wireless Autoconfig (aka Wireless Zero Config) you have "Automatically
connect to non-preferred networks", which you can disable. You should have
something similar in the driver config for your NIC.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
