Wireless internet connection keeps dropping

Alex

Hello,

This may be related to my previous question about
internet sharing... but it seems my wireless internet
connection keeps dropping everytime it detects a
different signal from my neighbors. How could I stop the
connection being dropped. I have Linksys Wireless Router
and card.

Thanks,

Alex

I don't have a solution, but I do share exactly the same
problem. The default behaviour seems to be to drop the
existing connection when it sees a new one, until you
click the popup box and hit Connect again to rejoin the
one you were already on - very annoying. As this happens
every 60 seconds or so, I'd also be very interested in a
solution !

Check to ensure that Windows connects only to preferred networks.
Start, run then type in:
ncpa.cpl [ok]
Right click on the wireless connection/ Choose properties
Goto the Wireless Networks tab
Click the button 'Advanced' at the bottom of the page.
Ensure that the box labelled 'Automatically conncet to
non-preferred network' is unchecked.

On the Access Point/Router
1. Make sure you are broadcasting the SSID
2. Make sure you are using a different channel than the one set by
default (try 1 or 11)

Hi Barb,

Thank you very much for your note. I guess I should have
mention the preferred network thing. I do have only my
home connection listed under the preferred network and I
have verified the automatic connection to non-preferred
box to be empty.

I'll try the different channel as you suggested below.

Thanks!
