wireless mouse & usb drive

I have a cheap wireless mouse, that works ok on usb or ps2 connectors.

when i plug a external drive into a usb port, after a while the mouse
freezes, i can get it back by unplugging the mouse (if its in usb) &
plugging it back, this makes it work again for a little while before
stopping again.

ps2 wired mice work ok, even if connected at the same time as the usb
wireless mouse.

any ideas?
