Wireless Mouse Problems

I have a Wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse,
which have been working fine for about 3 months. The
other day my mouse became very sluggish and would not
scroll across the screen unless I clicked the mouse
first. Thinking it was the batteries running down I
changed them for some fresh ones.
The mouse will now only work if it is within a 6 inch
range of the reciever. The keyboard works fine from over
3 feet away. Nothing about my work enviroment has changed
since this problem started occuring.
I have re set the "connect" buttons on the mouse and
reciever to re set the wireless frequency but still can't
solve the problem. Any Suggestions?

A slugish mouse on systems I have worked on usually had a
virus of some kind.

The mouse works ok within the limited range of the
receiver, so don't think its a virus. Did a scan all the
same.

Have you tried "connect" in Control Panel? Is the receiver near any
electrical fields that may block the signal (monitor, desk lamps, etc)?
That is the most common problem.
