Wireless machine not seeing a workgroup

Dave Rudolf

Hey all,

I have a laptop and about three desktop machines all going through the same
router. The laptop is using a wireless protocol, and the desktops are directly
connected via regular (RJ45) ethernet cables. The desktops all belong to one
workgroup, and the laptop to another. The desktops can see each other in terms
of sharing folders and printers and such. They can also see the laptop.
However, the laptop can't see the desktops (i.e., their workgroup does not
appear in the "Microsoft Windows Network" tree. Can anyone give me a hint as
to why this might be?

Thank.

Dave

Dave,

If the laptop is to be able to see the desktop computers, with them in another
workgroup, the laptop will have to be running the browser for its workgroup.

Next, check for the most common causes of this problem - a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, but there are other possibilities too.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:
