Wireless Internet keeps disconnecting

Hi all,

(Had problems with getting this post posted, kept getting the "yellow"
warning for some reason.) Anyway, I have Verizon's Wireless through Dell's
5700 Express card connection and it has been running well for months.
However, recently it has been disconnecting itself from the Internet,
randomly. And once-in-a-while I will have difficulties connecting. I will
get a "913" trouble code, whatever that is.

So far I've tried uninstalling my Express card modem and software and
reinstalling the latest drivers from Dell but that doesn't work. Verizon
said that the problem isn't theirs and my one year warranty with Dell support
just expired. Ugh.

If anyone would have any info on how to correct this problem, I would be
very grateful. Thanks,

Jerry

Desktop or laptop?

There is a chance it is a USB port problem. You should provide more data.

Hi Alex,

Not sure of what I can do to supply you with more data. Can you be more
specific? Thank you very much.

At least tell us if it is a desktop or laptop. Is it a secret? You seem to
be holding it back.

I asked this question in my first line. Was not it clear?

Perhaps you think that '5700 Express" should be self explanatory? Is it a
desktop or laptop network card?

Sorry Alex, I should have thought of that. Duh. Well, it's a Dell Inspiron,
E1705 laptop with Vista Home Premium, and as mentioned has the Verizon
Wireless Internet connection using Dell's 5700 Express card. The card plugs
into the large slot on the side of the laptop so I don't know if that would
have any kind of USB relationship or not. If you'd like more specific
information, please let me know. Thanks,

Jerry

Well, it is a bad case scenario as far as my prospective treatment is
concerned. I have a well developed set of steps to fix similar problems for
desktops not laptops.

With laptops which have only limited number of USB ports, perhaps just two I
would guess that if you have both of them enabled (something plugged into
them) and your machine overheats (if you haven't cleaned it thoroughly
periodically) then the OS would turn off a USB port or two because it cools
the machine down.

There are coolers for laptops on eBay aplenty, very inexpensive. I have them
under all my equipment (not laptops but other small things), my wife has one
under her laptop. Key for laptop air fan or laptop cooler, I think. Keep it
in mind that they plug into the same laptop of yours or you may have a
powered USB hub then the laptop will be off the loop.

Also some people around here recommended blowing compressed air thru grills
on the bottom.

Hi Alex,

Well, my laptop has six USB ports with nothing plugged into them. And I
do have a laptop cooler, just one without a motor. It's more of a laptop
riser. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep on looking for answers and
hope something comes up. Thank you for your suggestions.

Hi SG,

I don't think that will help because I don't access the Web through my
cell phone, as I understand some systems do. I assume that's what was meant
by resetting his "mobile" number? But I'm going to give them a call anyway.
Keepin my fingers crossed. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll post with the
results.

Hey SG, you were right! I called Verizon and worked with the techs on the
phone and while I was on line, and the connection shut down as we spoke. He
said that the problem was definately on their side and they are going to call
me back to resolve the problem. Thank you very much for the suggestion. It
lead to fixing the problem and soon, I hope. Have a great one.

Hi Jerry,

Well good deal and hope they help you get it resolved. Sometimes just
getting the right person makes a big difference. I had trouble not long ago
with my DSL, after many techs telling me I was getting the fastest speed
available I knew better. Finally I got someone who did know what he was
doing and after rebuilding my Profile, within seconds my speed was back to
what it was suppose to be,

Oy Vey! Still working on staying connected! Spent a few hours talking with
Verizon techs and they said that they don't reset the DMU and mobile numbers
anymore because that caused more trouble than it cured. So, they said it
wasn't their problem and hooked me into Dell----who said it wasn't their
fault. Ugh. Don't know where to go now but hope I get it straightened away.
I'll keep you posted if I find a cure. Thanks,

Jerry

Thanks, SG, when I have the "strength" I'll continue with Dell and Verizon.
In the meantime I have to allow my cell phone to recharge---and then there's
that ringing in my ears. Ha.
