Wireless connection problem - Help!

I've installed the 32 bit beta with no problem but I'm having issues
connecting to my wireless network.

Vista identified and loaded the driver correctly for my Linksys Wireless-G
PCI adapter. My router (Linksys WRT54G) is set up with;

Network Mode - Mixed (B&G)
SSID Broadcast - disabled
Wireless Channel - 11
Security Mode - WEP 128bits
MAC Filtering - on (with the Vista PC added)
Advanced Wireless settings - All set to default.

I created a new connection, entered the Network name (hidden SSID), set the
security type to WEP and entered the WEP key (copied from my router), and
finally seleced all check boxes. However, the connection is not being
recognised. If change SSID broadcast on my router, the connection is
recognised but wont connect as I am unable to set the WEP on Vista.

Can anyone help?

Try turning off all security on the router, mac filtering off, WEP
disabled, SID broadcasting then turn off the windows firewall
temporarilly. See if you can get a connection up and running with no
security enabled, If that works add security starting with encrypting
the wireless signal. I would use WPA not WEP its far more secure than
WEP but you may need to upgrade your wireless firmware. Once you get
wireless going re-enable the rest of the security one thing at a time
testing after evey step till you are back to fully secure.

If you have trouble connecting with all security disabled try turning
off UAC also temporarilly.

Thanks - I am rather reluctant to remove my routers security to get Vista
set up as I have an other 5 PCs that rely on the current security settings.
But I'll give these suggestions a go once I've finished downloading x64 and
can remove the others form the network.

I realise that WPA is better than WEP but my PDA only supports WEP so I
can't use WPA. Still, I'll give WPA a go and perhaps invest in a new PDA.

Can you tell me how to turn of UAC?

Hi dunc,

I have the same problem. 2 Different wireless cards same problem. If I turn
off WEP they work fine. Turn WEP back on both stop working. Vista recognizes
the need to put the pass code in and I do. But still will not connect. One
card internal Intel the other PCMCIA Linksys.

anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks - I did as you suggested and found out that I had the Authentication
Type set to Shared. I set the Authentication Type to Shared in Vista and it
all connected fine. Thanks

Worked for me too, Yippee...

But finding the setting to change in Vista was not easy.
