Wireless Comfort Edition Keyboard - piece of crap, or is something else to blame...?

I ad a Multimedia Natural board for years, but it bit the dust last week
(the enter key stopped working). As I suffer from RSI (in the form of CTS)
and I wanted something just as good to replace it. The only thing that
looked remotely close was the above. Well I received it this morning and,
initially, I loved it. Now I've used it for a while I notice several things
that make me want to send it back.

a) 75% of the time if I hit a key (and I know damned well that I've hit it)
the character/space does not
appear on the screen. I am not the fastest of typists, but I am accurate and
I know damned well I've hit the
key.

b) Pressing the contact button on the bottom of the board, does nothing
(according to the leaflet, that was
supplied with the unit, it should cause the 3 LEDs on the receiver to
cycle - it doesn't. The only button
that does that is the one on the receiver itself. Therefore, I assume that I
cannot change channel because
the signal is not being received.

c) This is a minor problem but, hitting either the numlock or caps lock keys
causes both the numlock and
capslock LEDs on the receiver to light; in order to turn them both off, I
have to hit the numlock key. The
numlock key light does not illuminate by itself, it will only illuminate if
the capslock key is pressed.
Hitting the capslock key has no effect - only the numlock key will turn them
both off.

I can ask for no help from MS because the set, with which I was supplied, is
OEM. I was misled in this regard as nowhere on the product description did
it state that it was an OEM product, and I have emailed the vendor to let
them know I'm not very happy. The description led me to believe that I would
be receiving a retail product in an MS-branded retail box.

I don't know whether the mouse is faulty, because I only bought the set for
the keyboard as I have a perfectly good MX510 (corded) rodent.

About the only good thing I have to say about it at the moment is that I
love the padded wrist rest - apart from that it was £50 worth of crap.

Does it sound like I have a faulty set, or can anyone suggest another
reason...? I'm tempted to backup and wipe the system partition to see if
there is a conflict with something, but I doubt very much that there is...

Thanks folks

Miss Tick - items b) and c) definitely sound like defective equipment, but
as far as item a) my wife and I both have the same issue missing keystrokes
and you know darn well you hit the key and although the brand is Logitech,
both are still part of wireless duo.
My thoughts would be to try to either get a refund or swap them out for
equipment that works.

Best way to check out a possible keyboard problem is to swap keyboards
with another computer. If the problem goes with the keyboard then
that is where the problem is, and if the problem stays on the same
computer then the problem is something in the computer.

Good luck

Don't have that model but I have a Kensington Wireless. When either the
battery starts to get low OR I get the keyboard too close to a power source
(speaker, monitor, transformer etc.) I start to have the missing keystrokes
problem. Even though the board is new, check the battery or make sure it is
fully charged if a rechargable before trying to send it back.

Best of luck

Had you taken the time to RTGSM (lol) as far as section 6, you would have
seen information relating to the HELP file which covers some
trouble-shooting topics.. :)

A Google search brought up the Microsoft Hardware website of which the
following page is a sub-section..

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838398

Please return to your original post and provide feedback on the help
provided, such that others can learn from your mistakes.. if you have any
more problems, I may not reply as I am unable to type while hiding under the
keyboard tray.. :)

From all the posts to which you have responded and the detail of your
messages, one would conbsider that you are well enough versed to make an
appropriate call on this one.

I'd go for a new trap and rodent.

Call Microsoft and still complain..OEM product or not, they still are
obliged to provide goods of merchantable quality.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. This is the first wireless keyboard
I've ever had and, unfortunately, it appears that I have been sold crap.
Shame really, as the board really is most comfortable to use and I love the
padded wrist rest - but that's about the only thing I love at the moment. I
have waved the Sale of Goods Act in the face of the company who sold it to
me, but the have yet to respond.
