Wireless Access problem with Lenovo 3000 N100

I have had a Lenovo 3000 N100 for a couple of months. I have not been
able to get the wireless to work but I thought that was because of the
old old wireless router I had. I just purchased a Linksys 54g and the
wireless connection still does not work. The router works fine will
the ports I don't have anyway of testing the wireless. I check all the
driver settings in the Laptop and it says that it does not get a signal
at all. I am broadcasting the SSID on the router and I would figure
that I would get secured access point at least but I am getting
nothing. All the hardware looks good. I just don't know what is wrong?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled them drivers twice and the ethernet
port works fine.

Thanks

Does the old router support 802.11b? A typical modern
notebook b/g card would be expected to work with any random
b router. Have you ever tried to connect to any other wifi
network? You might go somewhere one is known to exist.

Are you sure your wireless network card is "on"? Since
laptops have different power management features, the
settings might have turned it off. Check your system's
power management console (a separate app, not a window in
Windows' power management section) for the applicable
settings.

Why would it be a _secured_ access point?
If you have fiddled with the wireless router settings, undo
those settings changes, perhaps resetting the router to the
factory defaults if necessary, and then retry it without
any security yet. Do not leave the wireless network
unsecured like this for a long time, just long enough to
test the laptop.

Had you changed any related windows settings? Typically
windows XP comes ready to connect on a laptop. Perhaps your
wireless card has a manufacturer's utility to check it.

I would wonder if the wireless card itself is defective.
After booting windows, open a command prompt and do an
"IPCONFIG /ALL" to get the associated IP number for the wifi
card. Next ping that number.

I had a similar problem recently. Couldn't get a 3Com wireless router and
new laptop to "see" each other after running the router configuration and
Network Setup Wizard on both.
Turned out to be Zone Alarm firewall which is on both of them. Once I had
inputted a correct IP range and subnet mask all worked OK.
You will of course then have to set File and Printer Sharing on both.
