I want to wipe my hard drive of windows, then reinstall
it again. I just want to know how to install windows 98
from ms-dos.

If it's 98SE then boot from the cd, if it's just 98 then you need a boot
floppy that will load the cd drivers. You can download that at
bootdisk.com.

Boot with a Win98 boot disk, and at the command prompt type "fdisk /mbr"
without the quotes. Then start the fdisk program and delete all
partitions. Then create new partitions, being sure you make one of them
active. Then install Win98 in the usual way.

Two small points : On starting FDISK, make sure you say Y to 'large
disk support?'; and the partition XP is on may well be a 'non-DOS' (ie
NTFS) one. The partition that is needed will be a DOS Primary one (and
does not need to be set Active - the Win98 install will do that)
