WinZip & WiZ programs

I have both WinZip and WiZ programs on my PC.
It is my understanding that WinZip is the Microsoft program for zipping and
unzipping of files and I should expect to find it listed amongst my programs.
I looked at WiZ and it states
“What Is Wiz?
Wiz is a Microsoft Windows application, which extracts, tests, and displays
files archived in ZIP archive format, as well as creating archives in the
same format. Wiz can show you the difference(s) between archives, either
graphically in WizDiff, or by high-lighting the differences in the archive
entries. Wiz can also find archives, find files in archives based on a
pattern you provide, as well as decode many of the popular e-mail ASCII
encoding schemes.
The unzip logic of Wiz is based on Info-ZIP's product unzip, which has been
ported to a number of platforms. Likewise, the zip logic is based on
Info-ZIP’s product zip.â€

I am trying to clear out unnecessary programs, files etc as I want to start
some IT training and need a 'clean as poss' PC.

I only hesitated at removing this one because it says it's a Microsoft
Windows Application. What is it? Is it part of WinZip? Do I need it? Sorry in
advance if this is a silly query and thanks for any help. It will be much
appreciated.

WinZIP is a third party tool fro compressing/decompressing files/folders.
Wiz you explained - it sounds like a third party application as well.

Personally - if you don't use them - I see no need to have them. If you
have to go as far as looking into what they are/do - then you are likely not
using them - get rid of them.

No, it's not. WinZip is a third-party shareware program, not a Microsoft
product. See http://www.winzip.com/

Micrsosft's zip/unzip utility is built into Windows XP and doesn't really
have a separate name.

That simply means that it runs under Microsoft Windows, not that it's part
of Windows. Wiz is also a third-party program, but it's freeware. See
http://www.info-zip.org/WiZ.html

No.

Do I need it?

No. You need neither WinZip nor Wiz, since, as I said, Windows has a
built-in facility to zip/inzip. You may find either one useful, but it's up
to you. It's unlikely that you would want both. If you want to keep one,
WinZip is probably the better choice; I had never heard of Wiz until you
mentioned it and I googled it.
