WinXP

The other day, my aunt bought a computer from a garage shop operation.
They sold her a used Dell Pentium3 PC with WinXP installed, even though the
flyer said Win98SE on the box.
Basically, I want to return this since the WinXP is not legit, but the guy
refuses to take it back.
How much leverage do I have if I press him by threating to report him to
Microsoft antipiracy.
Can I get (from Dell or MS) a legit CD with Win98SE since a copy of Win98
was sold and registered with that machine when it was new?

http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx

Read through the link then decide what you want to do. As one who sells
legitimate pc's I would report him.

As long as you are sure it is a pirated OS, I'd threaten it anyway, but
I'm not sure what reporting this garage shop will get you?

Nope.

Are you accusing Kerry of selling computers with pirated OSs? If not,
then why would you suspect that Kerry isn't certain about his own
"sqeaky clean-ness" when it comes to selling legitimate OSs?

No one. I reply to any post I feel like, but at least I have the common
decency to answer the questions asked of me. Too bad you claim the
same!

I was sure that Kerry would smile, and not choose to take offence, as you
apparantly, on behalf of him, have done, hence, Who pulled your chain ?

That is not answers to my questions I posed to you! ROFL!

And I saw nothing in my questions that show that I was offended. You
assume too much from my questions.

What is so difficult about answering them?
hence, Who pulled your
chain ?

I already anwered that, "No one. I reply to any post I feel like . . .
.."

The "operation" your aunt went to was so beyond the pale of a legitimate
computer shop, you should not hesitate to contact your local BBB and the
police as well. This person has no right to be in the computer business. You
have been defrauded, and chances are the individual has no business license
and therefore is in a very vulnerable positon, should you decide to take
action.

In this regard I am without sin. Can't say that about everything in life
though. It depends on your version of what is a sin. I'm mostly consistant
within my morality :)
and

Talk about the pot ("one") calling the kettle black !

That's why I said the OP would have to decide for themself what to do. I let
them know I may have an axe to grind then I gave my opinion.

I'm as sure as I can be that I sell legitimate windows licences. I live in a
small town and want to continue in business here. The last two resellers
that acted like the one in the OP are no longer in business.

It pays to be honest ... I made that one up too.
