WINXP will not Boot

My computer will not boot up in WINXP. I get an error message that
software or hardware was added and was not successful. When I select
to Try Last Known Configuration the Windows bar starts but then the
screen goes blank and will not load. When I select Safe Mode, I get a
screen of 7's and will not load. The problem started when I tried to
upgrade Adobe Acrobat to a newer version. Would it help to uninstall
Adobe Acrobat or should I do a restore on the hard disk?

In Safe Mode, I get a list of all the drivers. Message is
multi(0)disk(0)partition(0)0windows\system32DRIVERS\WMILIB.SYS.
After that the same path is listed with each driver.
