Does anyone know how to connect a PC running WinXP Home to a PC running
Win98SE.
Both computers have USB and RJ45 (Ethernet) Ports.

The WinXP is a P4-2.8GHz
The Win98SE is a P2-800MHz

Thanks for any help/advise you can offer.
Best regards,

Bob

All I want to do is to be able to transfer files between my laptop and
desktop via USB or Ethernet or even Serial Port.
I realize there are network methods, but I understand they alll require some
type of network hub.

Thanks again!

Bob,

You will need to run the Network Setup Wizard. Reach this through START,
CONTROL PANEL, NETWORK and INTERNET CONNECTIONS, then click NETWORK
CONNECTIONS. On the left, you'll see "Set up a home or small office
network." run the wizard. For the windows 98 computer, you'll have to copy
the network setup files onto a floppy or someother removable device. Just
follow the instructions at the end of the Wizard.

Hope this helps.

Bob,

The method I explained in my answer does not require a hub.

The network cabling just needs to be over the "crossover" type, then no hub
is required. You can easily rewire a piece of RJ45 to make into a crossover,
there are instructions online, or buy it pre-made.

You need to get some sleep in Seattle. Bob didn't say he wanted to become a
Microsoft expert - he just wants to transfer files between xp and 98. For
that purpose, the wizard - which is not a piece of "crap" by the way - works
fine. I've had tons of customers set up their home networks by using the
wizard without any problems at all.
