WinXP thumbnail and icon view issue

When viewing pictures in a photo folder in "icon" view
mode, i see little thumbnails the size of icons instead
of an icon representing a .jpg image. occasionally when
switching from icon to thumbnail view, i still see the
icon sized thumbnail... any ideas as to what causes this?
could it be an option i accidentally selected in adobe
photoshop 7.0?

In Photoshop choose Edit > Preferences > File Handling.
Set the following options:

Image Previews

Choose an option for saving image previews: Never Save to save files without
previews, Always Save to save files with specified previews, or Ask When
Saving to assign previews on a file-by-file basis.
