WinXP SP2 network adapter failure

Good morning.

I have a new Dell Dimension 4600 running WinXP home on an SBCYahoo
DSL. It has an onboard Intel Pro/100 VE network adapter. When the
Windows update went to SP2, the connection went iffy. It will have a
valid connection for about 35-45 seconds, and then say that the
connection has failed, and is reaquiring the connection. This takes
about 2-3 seconds, then the connection is fine again for another 35-45
seconds. I disconnected the DSL and hooked the PC up to a router,
same thing. I uninstalled, and reinstalled drivers, same thing.
Updated drivers, same thing. After Dell was no help, went out and
bought new ethernet card. Same thing. Uninstalled SP2, works perfect
on either card.

I need SP2, so I must figure out how to make them work together. If
anyone has any ideas, I would be very thankful.

Have a nice day.

you might have IEEE 802.11x authentication enabled, which can cause this
problem. Open your network connection, Click on the Authentication tab and
disable IEEE 802.11x authentication.

Hope that helps,

Robert...

Thanks guys. I won't see this client again until Monday, so I'll see
if it works then. In the meantime, I've uninstalled SP2, and his PC
works fine for now. When I get back to him, I'll reinstall SP2 and
try your suggestion. I hope this works.

Again, thank you.
