WinXP SP0 Install CD Destroys Partitions on HD bigger than 131GB

I have just lost a lot of data thanks to the Windows XP Installer. (And
sloppy backup routines)

I had some trouble with a graphic card and thought that a clean install
of winxp would help. On my seagate 160GB HD I had several partitions
but my plan was to only re-install C:

I booted from the CD WindowsXP (No SP) and choose install. The HD list
looked a bit weird since it only showed the disc to be 131 GB, but i
picked the first drive, the the Install program claimed that there was
no partitions at all, and I needed to create one. No good I thought and
canceled the install. When I tried re-booting the computer, all
partitions had been erased from my HD. I tried Partition Magic but it
couldn't see anything either.

Later I have learned the WinXP only supports HD larger than 131GB from
SP1.
So how do I get the partitions back? I don't think I'm the only one who
will try to re-install winxp on a big HD.

I have tried searching Microsoft Knowledgebase, but I didn't find
anything

Please Help!

Try Stellar Phoenix. It can do data recovery from both NTFS and FAT32
partitions. It costs some money (like $50 or so), but the great part
is that you can use a demo that searches your drive for data and then
displays the data found. If it works, then you can pay for the full
version and it will recover your data. If it doesn't work, I'd try
another data recovery application (although stellar phoenix is the only
one that I've used).
