WinXP Service Pack 1 will not install

I have repaired WinXP using the WinXP CD. When I try to
install SP 1, I get the error message

"Setup could not verify integrity of file Update.inf"

And when I click OK, the install stops.

I then went to C:\windows\inf folder and could not find
the file Update.inf.

I would appreciate help with this problem.
