WinXP Product key sticker replacement

G

G.Beat

Purchased Windows XP OEM with my computer last year.
Due to thermal problems we are changing the case (same dealer) and
repackaging this PC -
motherboard upgrade - while we are at it.

How do I get a replacement sticker from Microsoft (removal of the existing
will destroy it).

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's possible!

I don't think you can. Your support for said OEM product doesn't come from
Microsoft anyway - but in any case - all you really need is the Product/CD
Key. Get a label sticker, write the number on it and attach that to your
case - as well as keeping that key somewhere else (away from the computer)
safe.

Microsoft doesn't supply the stickers, and won't help you. The OEM does. You
can ask the OEM vendor for a replacement sticker, but my guess is that they
won't supply one.

If I were you, I'd just make my own. Copy down the key on a piece of paper
and scotch tape it to the case.

Write down the product key from the sticker and then try to carefully
remove the sticker from the old case by useing a razor blade/scalpel
blade/sharp hobby knife etc., it can be done if you are carefull. Try
to just cut the adhesive away from the case as you slowly, carefully
and gently remove the label.

As others have said, probably very hard to remove. If you have a digital
camera take a picture of it using the close up mode. Size it to the correct
dimensions and print it.

I save serial numbers and product container info this way.
