I want to repartition my hard drive on my Dell Laptop and re-install
winxp pro, only I cannot figure out how to get to the C:\ prompt in
such a way that windows is not running and I can go ahead and do fdisk
to re-organize my hard drive.
Everytime I try by booting to the winxp cd disc, all it wants to do
is repair or re-install windows. I want to change the drive
partitioning before I reinstall
Could someone please tell me how to get where I need to be?
Much appreciation for your help
Joanne

You need to access the Recovery Console and at the command prompt type
DISKPART then press the Enter key. This will bring up a graphical interface.
Use the arrow keys to select the partitions to delete and press the Enter
Key. When finished leave the XP CD in the drive and type EXIT and hit the
Enter key. The computer will restart and boot the XP CD. Install XP as per
normal.

Careful. Some laptops store important boot info for the scrolling touchpad,
and sections of the bios on a hidden partition.
