WinXp networking to Windows Vista

Have installed a new Vista PC on the network.
Can see the shared folders on the Vista PC but when trying to open any
folder, I get this message.

" \\ xxxxx\xxx is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions. Access is denied.

I hope you can help.

Check for a third party firewall such as Norton or Mcafee running whihc could
prevent the connection.

Hi there jmwills,
Thank you for your response.
There is no 3rd party firewall.
There is a "public" folder on the Vista PC, (which was automatically created
when I created the network) to which I have full access from my XP PC. I have
compared the permissions for this folder and folders that I created and can
see no difference.
Windows XP shows if it has (Windows) firewall on or off, but I can find no
such notification on the Vista connection. Could it be Vista has a firewall
protecting these folders and I just can't see it?
