WinXP & MS Office, File/Open/Look In Latency

When trying to browse for files in MS Office applications (and other apps
too) when using WinXP, sp3 there are a few machines that hang for a fairly
long time (ie 30 +/- seconds) when one clicks on the File, Open, Look In drop
down box. Most machines running the same version of WinXP, MS Office, etc...
on the same domain do not hang as long.

My first guess is that the ones that are hanging for a longer period of time
have more mapped drives to the network (ie ten or more mapped drives). Is
there some way to reduce this latency, regardless of whether the particular
user or machine has numerous mapped drives or not ? TIA ...

Figured it out (should have got this sooner): It was because two of the
machines w/shares that the drives were mapped to were down.
