When I try play a movie from my HD in media player a
message pops up: "An operation failed due to a
certification failure". The H&S on microsofts website
does not provide help for this error.

There's no Microsoft technology I'm aware of currently in the wild that
would have anything to do with this.

http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html#isolate may help some....

If you installed some third party DVD, MPEG, MPEG2, or video card driver
software that ~might~ be involved with what's going on.
