WinXP login screen

Terry

In XP home I seem to have lost a user icon in the welcome
screen. Their profile
and documents are still there and that user can log in through the 2000 log
in screen by entering the user name. But the name does not show up in the
easy log in welcome screen, the name does not show up in any of the user
control screens and the when I try to enter the name again, I can't because
the user account already exists. I also can delete the account and
reinstall because the account doesn't show up in any of the control
screens.

What can I do to get that use log in back?

Terry

Terry answered:
Thanks I'll try that. I realized that I have XPHome and ran a program
"control userspasswords2" On that user name to change it to a superuser.
Although it told me that superusers don't exist in 'Home' and wouldn't run,
it affected the user name anyway. Since then I have discovered that you
aren't suppose to use that command in 'Home'. Course I don't know why a
bad command is included in this OS. I'll try Powertoys and see if that
works. Tho maybe i should use the home version.
Hi Terry,

Install tweakUI, which is part of Windows XP Power toys, there's a
feature under log on to control which user names get shown.

Good luck

No that didn't work. It looks like that screen still doesn't show the user
name I need to fix.

Well a full day today. I finally found that by restoring the system back to
the day before the change, I was able to get back the user log on. I had
to reinstall a few programs but at least I am back to normal.
Thanks roger for the help.
