I have a laptop with new WinXP Home on it given to me as Xmas gift that I may
wish to resell.

I'm not using it now, and don't want to activate it in my name.

Today it tells me I have 4 days left to activate.

What happens if I don't ?

thanks, Bill

Activation is not recorded against your name. Activation is recorded
against the specific hardware components contained in the computer.
You are free to sell the computer and the activated Windows XP as a
package.

Registration does record your name. However registration is entirely
separate from Activation and there is no requirement to register your
copy of Windows. You can activate it without registering.

Good luck
